On May 27th, we held the last edition of our bi-monthly community meetings. We heard from Will Goodall-Copestake about developments of the iBOL Europe website, Rutger Vos about the BGE hackathon, Donat Agosti about importance of linking a taxonomic name to a taxonomic concept, and Birgit Gemeinholzer about the new Metaplantcode project.

Here we bring you highlights from the meeting and further interesting information:

  • iBOL Europe website is now running for couple months and we would like to improve it further based on your feedback. Please help us by answering this 5min survey
  • The Biodiversity Genomics Europe project organised a hackathon to work on improving DNA-barcoding workflows & pipelines, you can see more info in this video.
  • Why linking a taxonomic name to a taxonomic concept and treatment is decisive? Have a look at the presentation from Donat Agosti (Plazi)
  • More info about the Metaplantcode project soon available at: http://www.metaplantcode.eu/
  • The project MEDAMP (Mediterranean and Adjacent Seas Amphipod Reference Library) is looking for collaborators. The project aims to build a network of amphipodologists to start to fill the gaps in the public databases. This major effort will be coordinated by the University of Lodz (Poland) with Andrea Desiderato and Michal Grabowski, and the University of Minho (Portugal) with Pilar Cabezas and Filipe Costa and supported by BGE (with Torbjorn Ekrem) and KAUST (with Susana Carvalho). Do not hesitate to contact Andrea at andrea.desiderato@biol.uni.lodz.pl and he will share all the other necessary information.
