The September edition of the iBOL Europe Community Meetings took place on 30 September.
Meeting Highlights
This time, Kasia Fantoni (Naturalis), the new iBOL Europe Community Manager, informed about the launch of the iBOL Europe Working Groups: a new initiative to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange among the iBOL Europe members community.
Then, Pete Hollingsworth (RBGE) shared reflections on the iBOL 2024 Conference and discussed the challenges and prospects of DNA barcoding of plants.
Afterwards, Christopher Laumer (NHM) shared the results of some Meiofauna transcriptome barcoding analyses he did on pilot datasets.
Vincent Merckx (Naturalis) concluded the meeting by introducing eDentity, a project building a large-scale research infrastructure for biodiversity monitoring in the Netherlands through environmental DNA.

- The deadline for the Call for Abstracts for the AquaEcOmics Symposium (Geneva, 17-20 March 2025) has been postponed to 15 November 2024.
- Project Psyche – dedicated to sequencing all Lepidoptera of Europe – has secured funding through the 10kLepGenomes COST Action Network. They are now actively recruiting individuals interested in Lepidoptera, genomics, conservation, biomonitoring, agroecosystems, and general biology.
- Biodiversa+ just announced two calls for tenders to guide businesses in using and sharing biodiversity data. The application deadline for both calls is 3 November 2024.
